Hey it’s Destiny here! Today I’m gonna be sharing with you 4 study tips to help you end the semester strong.

With finals season quickly approaching it’s easy to get overwhelmed and start procrastinating. Assignments start to pile up and study time gets cut shorter. Here are some ways to make the most of your study time and pass those finals:

1. Try the “Blurting Method”.

The blurting method can be a real game changer. The first step is to go through your notes and review any lecture slides. Then without looking at your notes, write down everything you remember about that topic. When you’re done, compare it to your actual notes and fill in anything you missed. This process shows you exactly what you know and what you think you know. Repeat it a few times to help the information stick. This is an effective way to test your memory and prepare for exams without feeling stressed.

2. Don’t cram, study over time.

Cramming may seem productive in the moment, but it rarely pays off. Instead, try splitting up your studying over a few days. You could try one chapter a day or one section at a time. Keeping your study sessions at a few hours can help you stay focused. Also, remember to take breaks, stretch, walk around, and drink water. You’ll retain more when you give yourself time to process the material.

3. Take notes before and during the lecture.

Another helpful trick is to look over the chapter or lecture slides before class and jot down the main ideas. Then, during the lecture, use a different pen color to add anything your professor explains, emphasizes, or discusses in more detail. This makes your notes easier to follow and helps you identify what’s really important. It also keeps you engaged during the lecture since you’re building on what you’ve already started.

4. Switch up your study spots.

Sometimes your room isn’t the best place to study. There may be too many distractions or you might get too relaxed and lose the motivation to study. Finding new study spots can boost your productivity. Try spending a few hours in the library, a quiet corner on campus, or even a café. Changing your environment can help you stay focused and make studying feel less repetitive. The key is to choose a space that’s comfortable but not distracting so you actually get work done. A place that I recommend for studying on campus is the stairs in the Science Complex. Another place to try out is the StarTUp at the Armory which is a free co-working space in downtown Towson.

I hope that these study tips will be useful during exam season and help you build better study habits. Stay tuned for more blog posts. Thanks for reading!
